Directors Newsletter #10

With a blink of an eye summer 2011 has officially passed, completing our 67th summer and what a summer it was! We are proud to report success in key programs such as Leadership in Training (LIT), Staff Training, and Bullying Prevention. The LIT Program continues to show long term positive results with 6 of our 2009 graduates joining our team as CITs, as well as a graduate from 2008 receiving this summer’s “Most Valuable JC” award. In the past, our own campers rarely met the requirements to be hired as Camp Amy Molson staff; this continues to confirm the benefits of our LIT program. Our staff training program was a success this year as staff were able to participate in different workshops; Dynamics Teambuilding, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, and as well as exchanges with other camps. Our Bullying Prevention program was launched from the start of staff training with a three hour workshop equipping our staff with the necessary skills to address bullying. Furthermore our campers took part in a Bully Awareness Program, where they took pledges to prevent bullying and were given tools to address situations of bullying. In addition, our campers benefited from a musical performance by the Wandering Stars about diversity and culture brought to us by the Segal Center, the performance had great reviews from our campers and staff.
This summer we were able to introduce to our campers new equipment for our boating activity, the addition of Yoga Kayaks was a huge success amongst our campers and staff. Furthermore, after winning our tipi back in March at the Tri State Camp Conference, its arrival this summer allowed us to embark on developing a new overnight site for our campers. Thanks to our dedicated Training Director, Maintenance Director, CITs along with one of our LITs who got up at the crack of dawn to spend 3 hours putting our tipi together for everyone to enjoy.
It gives us great pleasure to congratulate this summer’s award recipients;
- Leadership Amongst Peers: Tabatha Chaput
- Camp Spirit: Patrick Millette and Amanda Dobbs
- Dedication to the CAM Philosophy: Staci Loiselle and Kristen Boyer
- Excellence in First Year: Duo Wen Qian

Thank you to all of campers, staff, families and volunteers for another great season. We look forward to seeing you all in 2012!

What a summer! Camp Amy Molson has successfully completed our 66th summer.
We are proud to report success in key programs such as Leadership in Training (LIT), Staff Training, Health Awareness, and Bullying Prevention. The LIT Program continues to show long term positive results with 3 of our first 2007 graduates returning for a second year as part of our staff team and one of them receiving the “JC of the year” award. Also, we had 2 of our 2008 graduates return as staff this season. In the past, our own campers rarely met the requirements to be hired as Camp Amy Molson staff. To see 5 of our former campers on staff confirms the potential of our LIT program. Our staff training program was a success this year with our participation in the development and implementation of the first Tri Camp conference where three camps came together to share and learn over the course of 2 days as well as certifying our staff in first aid training. The health awareness program was popular and informative thanks to three doctors who spent a day at camp answering campers’ questions. We placed a large focus of our staff training and development on equipping our staff with the necessary skills to address bullying. In addition, we were able to secure funding to add 2 activities to our current program. Archery and photography were implemented and well received by our campers this season.
Thank you to all of campers, staff, families and volunteers for another great season.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Camp Amy Molson 65th anniversary reunion on Sunday, September 20th.
It was heartwarming to see so many people meet again – in some cases after decades – and reconnect immediately. The CAM bond is strong indeed.
Many stories were shared and hot dogs eaten. And judging from how many children former staff brought along, a new generation of future campers or staff were introduced to Camp.
In addition to reconnecting and seeing the changes at Camp, the reunion was also a fundraising event. We are pleased to announce that we received cash and pledges totaling over $17,300 at the reunion with donation amounts ranging from $20.00 to $1000.00. This will begin to build a base of secure funding for camp and we thank all of you who invested in camp financially.
If you were unable to make a donation at the event, we are still happy to accept your donation. In fact, it’s never too late! You can make a secure on-line donation. Remember, breaking your donation down into monthly payments can make it easier to give.
Or, you can call us at Camp and give us your credit card information over the phone. And, of course, you can always send us cheque in the mail.

Directors Newsletter #6-2009

Camp Amy Molson recently completed our 65th successful summer with an enthusiastic high quality team of staff. While we certainly faced new challenges related to the economy including lower donations as well as with our facilities which have reached an age where maintenance has become more costly. We are proud to report success in key programs such as Leadership in Training (LIT), Outdoor Appreciation, Health Awareness, and Bullying Prevention. The LIT Program showed its first long term positive results this year with 5 of our first 2007 graduates joining the staff as CITs this year and one of them receiving the “CIT of the year” award. To see 5 of our former campers on staff confirms the potential of our LIT program. The Outdoor Appreciation program highlighted in last year’s plan is another success: Thanks to an investment in the Ropes Course and Trails as well as a charismatic Nature Lore activity leader, there was an increase in the campers’ enthusiasm for outdoor activities. Campers were also keen to learn more about composting and recycling. The health awareness program was popular and informative thanks to two doctors who spent a day at camp answering kids’ questions. In addition, our excellent Camp Nurse held workshops for the campers. There was a significant reduction in bullying this season as campers learned positive behaviors to help them stay safe throughout the year.
Staff quality was exceptionally high for two reasons: we had more applicants to choose from because of a competitive summer job market and we had a strong staff training program with several workshops and presentations by outside consultants. We were fortunate to have such a strong team of staff and look forward to many of them joining our team next summer.
We would like to take the time to thank our staff and campers for a wonderful summer 2009 season.
